PinnGuard UV Shield: UV-Control Laminated
UV-Control Laminated
PinnGuard bonds glass lites with a PVB interlayer. If the glass cracks, the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer.
Typical uses
- Museums & galleries
- Retail display
- Conservatories
- Heritage buildings
What it is
PinnGuard UV Shield is the UV-control laminate in the PinnGuard range. Like the rest of the range it bonds glass lites with an interlayer in a pre-press and autoclave process, and the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer if the glass cracks. The interlayer is selected for projects concerned with UV exposure of interiors and contents.
How it differs from other PinnGuard options
PinnGuard 33.1 is the standard safety laminate; UV Shield is chosen when protecting what sits behind the glass is part of the brief. PinnGuard Colour changes the appearance with a tinted interlayer, whereas UV Shield is aimed at UV control rather than colour. PinnChrome reflective glass changes the facade look through a coating; UV Shield keeps the change inside the laminate.
Where it is used
Typical uses include shopfronts and display windows where merchandise sits in daylight, galleries and display enclosures, and homes with furnishings or artwork near large windows. It can also be specified as a lite inside a PinnShield insulating unit where a project needs both a laminate and a sealed cavity.
Working within the PinnGuard range
Every PinnGuard laminate starts from the same principle: glass lites are washed, stacked with an interlayer, pre-pressed to remove air and then bonded in a separate autoclave step, after which edges and clarity are checked before dispatch. What changes between options is the interlayer and the build-up. Toughened or heat-strengthened lites can be combined where a project needs them, and a laminate can also be used as one lite inside a PinnShield insulating unit. Because build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project, the most useful starting point is a drawing with the location of the glass and the outcome you need.
How it is processed
- 1. Clean and stack. Lites are washed and stacked with PVB between them.
- 2. Pre-press. Air is pressed out and the stack is lightly bonded.
- 3. Autoclave. A separate autoclave step completes the bond.
- 4. Inspect. Edges and clarity are checked before dispatch.

Specifying PinnGuard UV Shield
Share panel sizes, edge finish, the location of the glass and whether it must be combined with toughened lites or an insulating unit. Any UV figure required by the project should be stated in the specification so we can confirm the appropriate build-up before manufacture. Build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project and confirmed with our technical team.
