PinnGuard Acoustic: Acoustic PVB Laminated
Acoustic PVB Laminated
PinnGuard bonds glass lites with a PVB interlayer. If the glass cracks, the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer.
Typical uses
- Hotels & hospitality
- Recording studios
- Airport terminals
- Urban high-rises
What it is
PinnGuard Acoustic is a laminated glass in the PinnGuard range that bonds glass lites with an acoustic PVB interlayer instead of a standard one. It is made through the same clean, stack, pre-press and autoclave workflow as every PinnGuard build-up, and it keeps the basic laminated behaviour of the range: if the glass cracks, the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer.
How it differs from other PinnGuard options
Compared with PinnGuard 33.1, the standard safety laminate, the defining change is the interlayer, chosen for projects where noise control is part of the brief. It is a single laminated pane, so it is different from PinnShield Acoustic, which is a sealed insulating glass unit with a cavity. Some projects compare the two, or use an acoustic laminate as one lite inside an insulating unit; that combination is agreed per project.
Where it is used
Typical applications include meeting rooms and acoustic partitions, windows facing busy roads, hotel and hospital rooms, and studios. The right build-up depends on the noise source, frame and the rest of the wall, so we treat acoustic intent as an input to the specification rather than a fixed rating on the glass.
Working within the PinnGuard range
Every PinnGuard laminate starts from the same principle: glass lites are washed, stacked with an interlayer, pre-pressed to remove air and then bonded in a separate autoclave step, after which edges and clarity are checked before dispatch. What changes between options is the interlayer and the build-up. Toughened or heat-strengthened lites can be combined where a project needs them, and a laminate can also be used as one lite inside a PinnShield insulating unit. Because build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project, the most useful starting point is a drawing with the location of the glass and the outcome you need.
How it is processed
- 1. Clean and stack. Lites are washed and stacked with PVB between them.
- 2. Pre-press. Air is pressed out and the stack is lightly bonded.
- 3. Autoclave. A separate autoclave step completes the bond.
- 4. Inspect. Edges and clarity are checked before dispatch.

Specifying PinnGuard Acoustic
Tell us where the glass will sit, the panel dimensions, edge finish and whether toughened or heat-strengthened lites are needed. Any acoustic target should come from your consultant; we confirm the build-up with you before production. Build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project and confirmed with our technical team.
