PinnGuard Secure: Heavier laminated build-ups

Heavier laminated build-ups

PinnGuard bonds glass lites with a PVB interlayer. If the glass cracks, the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer.

Typical uses

  • Bank counters
  • Jewellery stores
  • Embassies
  • Ground-floor facades

What it is

PinnGuard Secure covers heavier laminated build-ups within the PinnGuard range. It follows the same laminating workflow as the rest of the range, bonding lites with interlayer and completing the bond in a separate autoclave step. The aim is a laminate chosen for projects that need more resistance to forced entry than the standard safety laminate is selected for.

How it differs from other PinnGuard options

PinnGuard 33.1 is the standard safety laminate for everyday safety glazing. Secure moves to heavier build-ups for security-led briefs. It differs from PinnSentry, which uses a stiffer SGP interlayer for structural and load-carrying glazing; Secure is selected around intrusion concerns, PinnSentry around structural ones. A project engineer or security consultant decides which brief applies.

Where it is used

Typical uses include jewellery and retail shopfronts, bank counters and branches, ground-floor residential windows and doors, and display cases. Heavier glass also affects frames, hardware and handling, so Secure is best discussed early in a project rather than substituted late.

Working within the PinnGuard range

Every PinnGuard laminate starts from the same principle: glass lites are washed, stacked with an interlayer, pre-pressed to remove air and then bonded in a separate autoclave step, after which edges and clarity are checked before dispatch. What changes between options is the interlayer and the build-up. Toughened or heat-strengthened lites can be combined where a project needs them, and a laminate can also be used as one lite inside a PinnShield insulating unit. Because build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project, the most useful starting point is a drawing with the location of the glass and the outcome you need.

How it is processed

  1. 1. Clean and stack. Lites are washed and stacked with PVB between them.
  2. 2. Pre-press. Air is pressed out and the stack is lightly bonded.
  3. 3. Autoclave. A separate autoclave step completes the bond.
  4. 4. Inspect. Edges and clarity are checked before dispatch.

Specifying PinnGuard Secure

Provide the location, panel dimensions, frame system and any security classification your consultant requires. We do not assign a rating without verification; the build-up is confirmed with our technical team before production. Build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project and confirmed with our technical team.
