PinnGuard Colour: Tinted & Coloured Interlayer
Tinted & Coloured Interlayer
PinnGuard bonds glass lites with a PVB interlayer. If the glass cracks, the fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer.
Typical uses
- Feature facades
- Decorative partitions
- Canopies & canopy frits
- Branded interiors
What it is
PinnGuard Colour is a laminated glass that uses a tinted or coloured interlayer to bring colour or privacy into the glazing. It is made through the standard PinnGuard process of cleaning, stacking, pre-pressing and autoclave bonding, and it keeps the laminated characteristic of the range: fragments tend to stay bonded to the interlayer if the glass cracks.
How it differs from other PinnGuard options
PinnGuard 33.1 uses a standard clear interlayer; Colour changes the interlayer to change the look. Unlike PinnChrome, where colour comes from a reflective coating on the glass surface, here colour sits inside the laminate between lites. Unlike PinnTexture, which gives privacy through a pattern, Colour gives a smooth surface with a tinted appearance.
Where it is used
Typical uses include office partitions and meeting rooms, feature walls, canopies, balustrades and facade accents. Colour appearance shifts with light, background and viewing angle, so a sample in project conditions is the most reliable way to approve it.
Working within the PinnGuard range
Every PinnGuard laminate starts from the same principle: glass lites are washed, stacked with an interlayer, pre-pressed to remove air and then bonded in a separate autoclave step, after which edges and clarity are checked before dispatch. What changes between options is the interlayer and the build-up. Toughened or heat-strengthened lites can be combined where a project needs them, and a laminate can also be used as one lite inside a PinnShield insulating unit. Because build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project, the most useful starting point is a drawing with the location of the glass and the outcome you need.
How it is processed
- 1. Clean and stack. Lites are washed and stacked with PVB between them.
- 2. Pre-press. Air is pressed out and the stack is lightly bonded.
- 3. Autoclave. A separate autoclave step completes the bond.
- 4. Inspect. Edges and clarity are checked before dispatch.

Specifying PinnGuard Colour
Share the intended colour or reference, panel sizes, edge finish and whether toughened or heat-strengthened lites are needed. Colour and build-up are confirmed against a sample before production. Build-up, interlayer and performance are specified per project and confirmed with our technical team.
